A second team of Johns Hopkins Nursing graduate students, faculty, alumni, and non-Hopkins nurses left late last week for Haiti on a two-week deployment. The team members include an adult NP, family NP, two pediatric NPs, and an ER nurse. Together, they bring needed nursing expertise to Port au Prince and the surrounding communities. This team follows closely in the steps of 8 nurse colleagues who departed from Baltimore on March 5 to join IMC and assist in Haitian relief efforts. So far, all the volunteers seem to be doing well. They report feeling overwhelmed with the needs of the Haitian people, medical and otherwise, and impressed with the gratitude and strength of the patients they encounter. Team members acknowledge what a great experience it is to work with other volunteer relief workers from around the US, as well as the Haitian nurses and physicians. Follow their updates on medical relief efforts and living conditions in Port-au-Prince and elsewhere on our team blog from Haiti. |
