After more than 30 years of exemplary service at the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing, Professor Marie Nolan, PhD, MPH, RN, FAAN, has accepted a position as dean of the Conway School of Nursing at the Catholic University of America in Washington, DC, effective May 16.
At JHSON, Nolan had served as director of the PhD Program, executive vice dean, and was interim dean during the international search that led to the hiring of Sarah Szanton, PhD, RN, FAAN. She also directed JHSON’s collaboration with the Peking Union Medical College in Beijing on the first nursing doctoral program in China to graduate nurses with a PhD and in July 2021 was appointed as M. Adelaide Nutting Endowed Chair.
“We will greatly miss her steadfast leadership and will forever cherish the impact she had on our school as an educator, mentor, leader, colleague, and friend,” says Szanton. “Marie may be best known for her compassion, kindness, calm demeanor, and yet fierce advocacy for students and the nursing profession.”
Nolan, a JHSON master’s graduate, is internationally recognized for her pioneering end-of-life research and other efforts on patient and family decision making in the face of critical illness.
