How To Get the Most Out of Accepted Students Day

Congratulations on your acceptance into the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing!

The Office of Admissions works hard to put together a variety of virtual and in-person events throughout the year for applicants to connect and learn about their prospective programs. While these events provide students with important information, the events held on Accepted Students Day stand out as the most important for incoming students.

The MSN (Entry into Nursing) and the DNP Advanced Practice and Executive programs put together specific Accepted Students Day events full of information pertinent to those making their final decision between nursing programs. We want to make sure you feel confident about your final decision and your transition into your academic program.

Here are some tips to get the most our of your Accepted Students Day.

Review Your Acceptance Information

Whether your event is virtual or in-person, it is always advised to look through your entire acceptance packet prior to your event. Make sure to check the additional pages attached that provide specific information about your program, deposit deadlines, potential scholarships, and even prerequisite requirements. For those in advanced practice programs, you will also find clinical placement information and plans of study for your specific practice track. For students accepted into the MSN (Entry into Nursing) program this includes conditional prerequisite and degree requirement information. All students, regardless of program, should make note of their seat deposit deadline that is outlined in the acceptance letter. Understanding the information in the admit letter is critical to ensuring a successful and smooth transition into your program.

Come Prepared

After you have reviewed your acceptance packet, write down any questions you have and would like to discuss with our staff, faculty, and students. While some of those questions will be answered during sessions and presentations, you will have time in either virtual or in-person format to talk with members of the School of Nursing to get your questions answered. You will also receive additional contact information for various offices and faculty members that will allow you to follow up post-event with any lingering questions.

Be Ready to Mingle

We often try to plan time for you to mingle casually with faculty and current students. Our students and faculty have done amazing things during their time in nursing, but also pursue other interests in their free time. This is a great time to meet your fellow incoming classmates and build connections with people who can help enhance your academic experience at Hopkins.
