Today the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing (STTI) will induct Johns Hopkins School of Nursing Professor Hae-Ra Han and Associate Dean of Global Affairs Nancy R. Reynolds into the International Nurse Researcher Hall of Fame. The STTI Hall of Fame recognizes nurses who have significant international achievement and whose research has improved communities and the nursing profession. This is occurring at the Sigma Nursing 29th International Nursing Research Congress in Melbourne, Australia.
Nancy Reynolds, PhD, RN, C-NP, FAAN, has over 40 years of experience in nursing, health care, illness behavior, research, and education; her research focuses on the complexities of self-care behavior, treatment engagement, and medication adherence among people living with chronic illnesses. Through numerous interdisciplinary trials, she has tested interventions that use low-cost cellphone technology to bring health care services to vulnerable populations affected by HIV. She has also led NIH-sponsored studies in India, Ghana, and the United States to enhance treatment adherence and health outcomes of vulnerable HIV-positive women and children.
Hae-Ra Han, PhD, RN, FAAN, specializes in minority and immigrant health, health literacy, health disparities, non-communicable disease, and measurement. She has studied breast and cervical cancer among Korean Americans and women living with HIV, and cardiovascular health promotion among Korean and Latino immigrants and low-income African Americans. She is an adjunct professor at the University of Technology, Sydney, co-director of the JHSON’s Center for Cardiovascular and Chronic Care, and associate director for implementation of the Center for Innovative Care in Aging.
It is notable that this is the first Sigma Theta Tau conference JHSON will attend since Nu Beta became the first At-Large Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau to add an entire health system to its charter. Nu Beta’s outgoing president, Dr. Diana Baptiste, described several benefits of being a Chapter-At-Large:
- We will improve collaboration and have a formal partnership between the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing community and Johns Hopkins Hospital’s nurse leaders
- Greater collaboration in education, research, scholarship, and community service
- Greater visibility of STTI in the workplace
- Improved engagement, satisfaction, and retention of clinical nurses
The theme of the 29th International Nursing Research Congress is Innovative Global Nursing Practice and Education Through Research and Evidence-Based Practice. In addition to Drs. Nancy Reynolds and Hae-Ra Han, several JHSON community members are attending:
