Great opportunity to help out and have fun

Hello all.

We are continuing with our fund raising for the Haitian Health Foundation and the Haiti Nursing Foundation. As of today, we are just about half way to our goal, having raised approximately $5000! Thanks to all who have helped thus far!

It is important that we keep up the momentum for fundraising, as the situation in Haiti is still painfully acute and present, and the need for supporting Haitian nurses is huge. I am more convinced as time goes on that our two beneficiaries, the Haitian Health Foundation and the Haiti Nursing Foundation, were excellent choices because of their focus on supporting nursing education and care- that will ultimately touch the lives of hundreds and thousands of Haitian people in the future.

A great opportunity is upon us now- open to students, staff, faculty, alumni, friends, family and others- with the promise of raising hundreds if not thousands of $$$ – all while having fun with some buddies. And it does NOT involve begging anyone to buy something, or cook or bake, or ask for donations, etc. All you have to do is get trained to work a concession stand for Aramark (one 3 hour session), then sign up and show up for whatever Orioles games or other event (e.g. a concert) that you schedule.

Honestly, it’s that easy– I did this years ago at some Oriole’s games, and loved the fact that people just came to us, cheerfully and wearing orange shirts and Orioles or random hats, with money in their hands and happy to spend it. Then we got a percentage of the profits. Of course we took breaks to get a peek at the game. So please consider helping us with this opportunity to raise money for – in this case- the Haitian Health Foundation. We will officially be volunteers for HHF, so you can even invite non-Hopkins related friends, family, roommates and others join in the fun and good work.

In the words of Promise Olomo, Traditional 2011 class president, “We need YOU to VOLUNTEER to man a concession stand!”

The training days that can be attended are as follows:

April 20th @ M&T Bank Stadium (6-9p)
April 22nd @ Oriole Park (6-9p)
May 5th @ Oriole Park (6-9p)

Interested volunteers: please email vbruce3@son.jhmi.edu or aricher2@son.jhmi.edu to sign up for a training session or if you have any questions.

Hope to see you at the ball game!

PS- for all you good folks who are not in the Baltimore-Washington area, and any others who will not be able to sell Coke, pizzas, tacos, etc at the ballgames this spring and summer, you can still help with our fund raising.
