Alumni Update

Paula KentPaula Kent, MSN ‘05

President, JHNAA

I am happy to report that Alumni Weekend 2013 was once again a terrific success! We had over 275 people in attendance, ranging from current students to members of the Class of 1944. Favorite events were the Thursday night cocktail party at Bond Street; “Class Without Quizzes” with Professor Dan Sheridan, who lectured on forensic nursing; the annual luncheon; and an address from our new dean, Dr. Patricia Davidson! I know those of you who met Dr. Davidson at Alumni Weekend and other events this fall were impressed by her genuine warmth and her commitment and vision for the School. I was also struck by how much she values alumni input. I know she wants to hear from all of you, and I hope you get the opportunity to meet her shortly.

The deadline to nominate your classmates for an Alumni Award is quickly approaching: December 1, 2013. Nominate those who inspire you through their leadership, service, and contributions to the field. These awards are given during the luncheon at Alumni Weekend. For more information and to nominate your fellow alumni for an award, please visit www.alumni.jhu.edu/awards. I serve on the Awards and Nominations Committee for the JHU Alumni Association, and I would love to see more applications from fellow nurses.

Johns Hopkins is doing exciting work with affinity groups. These groups bring alumni from all Johns Hopkins schools together over a shared interest. A health care affinity group was recently formed, so please let Lindsay Dorrance, Director of Alumni Relations, know if you are interested in getting involved (LDorran1@jhu.edu).

Finally, I am very excited by the work being accomplished through our JHU Nursing mentorship program. It is a great resource for students, and so rewarding for alumni! If you are interested in applying, please visit www.nursing.jhu.edu/mentor.
